Manternach Victorious at GSS

Galen Manternach led nearly every lap in the Super Stock Feature to win just ahead of Greg Back, who beat up on the field in the 25 lap event by simply powering past from row 5. The race began with Dean Burby and Matt Pyburn on the front row. Burby aced the start but was quickly overtaken by Galen. The leader then put distance between himself and the field, until about lap 13 when Back starting closing after moving to 2nd.

A lap 15 caution put Back on the outside of a double file restart and the final 10 laps saw Back chase Manternach around the third-mile oval. Manternach’s car was pushed to its full limit to stay ahead of the fast Back car, and Galen really suffered no threatening challenge to his lead as he took the checkered. Michael Gwidt’s 3rd place finish posted another top 5 for his new racer, and Matt Pyburn and Mike Brooks clicked off top 5s in 4th and 5th. Colin Reffner’s involvement in a caution put a dent in his points lead, but it will still take some doing to overtake the lately dominant youngster coming into halfway.
