December 15, 2009

Meeting was called to order at 7:12 pm by Matt Raykowski

Attendance 23

Last meeting was held on 11-03-09, minutes from last meeting were read, motion to accept minutes by Matt Raykowski, second by Matt Pyburn

Matt Raykowski stated the board recommends amending, but not changing, 3 of the CWSSA rules:

1) Amend shock rule by creating list of shocks that were allowable when the $100 per shock rule went into effect

2) Allow Dells Super Stock cars to race with CWSSA if Dells cars follow their 2009 rules

3) Amend our rules to read “All cars racing with CWSSA must use the CWSSA tire”

After discussion of shock amendment proposal, Matt asked for a show of hands to vote, FOR: 15, OPPOSED: 0

After a very lengthy discussion about allowing Dells cars to race with CWSSA, Matt asked for a show of hands to vote on following amendment.

Allow Dells Super Stocks to race in CWSSA events under the Dells 2009 Super Stock rules, with:

-1 year time limit, will review after 2010 race season

-add weight penalty stipulation just like Mid-Am cars

-Verify if the Dells weight rule is 3100 lbs or 3200 lbs

Show of hands FOR: 13, OPPOSED: 0

Brief discussion of amending CWSSA rules to read “All cars racing with CWSSA must use the CWSSA approved tire”

Show of hands FOR: 14, OPPOSED: 0

Matt Raykowski then told the club that the board will allow the # 70 car to use a 60/40 left/right weight split and minimum weight of 3200 lbs. After a brief discussion we moved on to new business.

-Tentative GSS schedule is out, 14 races for CWSSA

-MMS will run CWSSA every week, schedule due out in January

-Members have talked to new promoters of State Park Speedway, Matt asked for show of hands for how many drivers were willing to race at SPS at least once, FOR: 14 OPPOSED: 0

-Members suggested that we ask SPS to have maximum of 2 CWSSA events, preferably during the weeks that GSS does not have CWSSA scheduled to race. These nights would be Thursday nights, 6-24-09 and 8-05-09

-There will be a track meeting at SPS January 13 2010 for anyone who wishes to attend

  Drawing for door prizes,

1 free pit pass at GSS went to Baird Reffner

1 free pit pass at MMS went to Dave Gwidt

Point Beers and sodas went to Brian Weinfurter, Brian Stroik, Jenny Uttecht, and Ann Soyka

Motion to adjourn meeting at 8:48 pm by Brian Weinfurter, seconded by Ken Soyka.

The next meeting will be January 12, 2010 at the Olympia Restaurant / Pete’s Sports Bar in Stevens Point @ 7PM.

- Discussion for January:

-Point fund ideas needed, numerous suggestions. Need more participation from all club members, Winter party and sell 50/50 tickets, raffle tickets for cash prize, cruise, vacation, NASCAR tickets, hunting trip, etc.

- Update on SPS events

-MMS will donate 1 free pit pass and there will be a few other door prizes awarded to those in attendance

Hello All,

This coming Tuesday is the next winter meeting for the CWSSA. Scheduled activities for this meeting are as follows:

1) Voting on rule changes for 2010 (proposed changes to be presented below)

- Amend shock rule (clarify which model shocks are currently legal)

- No changes to 2009 CWSSA rule book

- Allow DRP cars to compete in CWSSA events under 2009 DRP rules

Please take advantage of this opportunity to have a say in what the rules will be for the division in which you compete. It is a privilege that not many racers have. Anyone who paid the club dues, or anyone who competed in a 2009 CWSSA event and paid the $10 fee, is eligible to vote (1 vote per car).

2) Discussion of 2010 CWSSA Point Fund

- Posters?

- Fund Raisers

- Winter Parties

3) Discussion of possibly having CWSSA races at State Park Speedway in 2010

Please make plans to attend and take part in keeping this an affordable division that continues to put on some of the most competitive racing in the area. There will be a few door prizes (soda, beer, pit pass for 2010) given away to a few lucky people in attendance. See you on Tuesday!

In the D & D Amusement Games CWSSA feature event, Nekoosa’s Ben Capek led a very competitive group of drivers to the line for their 25-lap main event. Marv Flick, who calls Stevens Point, WI home, jumped out to the early lead. Closely behind Flick were Matt Pyburn and Matt Raykowski. Reffner, who was crowned track champion one week earlier, appeared to be on a rail. Starting twelfth, Reffner worked himself into the third position by lap eight. Two laps later, Reffner made the pass of Flick for the top spot. Brian Back, who also started deep in the field, also had a very good car. Back, who reigns from Vesper, WI, positioned himself in the runner up position on lap eleven.

Rick Grunden made some nice passes of his counterparts and looked to be hooked up and ready to better his position even more. Grunden appeared to be better as the race progressed and looked better on the long runs. Brian Back made every attempt to cut into the lead of Colin Reffner, however, Reffner was too much today and cruised to his first Fall Spectacular Feature win! Brian Back, Rick Grunden, Matt Pyburn, and Matt Raykowski rounded out the top five. Heat winners today were Jason Dummer and Erin Schlough.

Winning a championship in racing requires hard work, dedication, ambition, luck, and desire. Following in the footsteps of Central Wisconsin racing legend Tom Reffner and his uncle Bryan Reffner, third generation driver Colin Reffner , age 15, of Wisconsin Rapids and his team displayed all of those qualities during the 2009 racing season.

At Golden Sands Speedway (GSS) he came out of the gates strong, posting a couple of feature victories in the first month of racing and building a generous points lead. He battled through some adversity during the middle months of the year, and was in 2nd in the season standings heading into the final night of racing, less than 20 points behind Wausau’s Mike Gwidt. Colin was determined to fight to the end and started the final night with Fast Qualifying honors, and scored more points than Mike in the heat race as well. He would enter the final feature race of the year at GSS just 14 points out of the lead. Colin battled to the very last lap, but it was not enough, as he crossed the finish line 4th and Mike Gwidt won the race sealing the Championship. Colin would finish 2nd in GSS season points, just 28 points short of 1st.

Colin would not let that deter him from his goal to become a champion as he headed to Marshfield Motor Speedway (MMS) the very next night to finish out the year there. The situation at MMS however was an entirely different story. Of the previous 10 races held at MMS for the CWSSA super stocks in 2009, Colin had won 9 features and finished 2nd in the other race. He had all but stamped himself the 2009 MMS Champion already, but made sure to prove he had earned the title by winning an AMAZING 10th feature at MMS in 2009 and clinching the 2009 MMS Championship.

With his 2nd place finish in points at GSS, and 1st place at MMS, Colin also accumulated more points than any other CWSSA competitor and became the youngest driver ever to capture the CWSSA Overall Championship in 2009. The offseason holds some questions as to whether Colin and his team will be back racing with the CWSSA again, but if 2009 is any indication, he will be a driver to be reckoned with whatever division he is competing in for 2010. The CWSSA would like to congratulate Colin Reffner and his team on being the 2009 MMS and CWSSA Champion, and wish him luck in 2010.

The D & D Amusement Games Super Stocks took to the racing surface and put on another excellent feature event. With Marv Flick and Aaron Anderson leading the way to the green in the 20-lap feature event, it didn’t take long for Adam Eckes to take over the top spot. Eckes, from his fourth starting spot, took over the lead on lap three and held it until lap nine. That was when Matt Raykowski took over the helm with Track Champion Colin Reffner hot on his heels.

At the halfway point, second year driver Reffner took over the top spot with the pass on Raykowski. Deeper in the field, Ryan Hinner, Erin Schlough, and Scott Hamel all battled for position. Hinner, whom of which has been one the fastest super stock drivers the second half of the season, slipped pass Schlough for the fourth position. One of the most consistent drivers all year has been Mark Langreck. Langreck moved his machine into the third position with five to go.

Already capturing the track championship before the start of the feature event, Reffner cruised to, yet, another feature win here tonight at Marshfield Motor Speedway. Having another great run and finishing second was Stevens Point driver Matt Raykowski. Rounding out the top five was the Dash 4 Cash winner Mark Langreck, fast heat winner Ryan Hinner, and Greenwood, WI driver Erin Schlough.
