Marv Flick Outpaces the Field to Win His First Ever Super Stock Feature at GSS!
Marv Flick capitalized on a front row start to pull away from a field of super stock racers, all driving like this may be their last race. Colin Reffner and Brian Weinfurter started nearly next to each other, fittingly for a points battle that will go down to the last race. Reffner got a hole in traffic to make it forward quickly, while Weinfurter had to race a pack intent on getting their own spots ahead of him. At about mid-point Reffner was in 4th and Weinfurter in 7th, but by lap 20 Weinfurter was behind Reffner and seemingly gaining.
A shuffle in the racing allowed Reffner to quickly pass Dwayne Davis and John Zuch almost in the same lap, while Scott Hamel snuck past Weinfurter, widening the gap between the two front runners in the points. Reffner finished 2nd, Weinfurter 6th behind Hamel. Ahead of Hamel was Davis, along with the steady John Zuch in 3rd. Kyle Andrich posted his 2nd Fast Time of the year.
Dean Zakrzewski Captures His Second Feature Win of 2010 at GSS!

Dean Zakrzewski started on the 3rd row and hung around the front long enough to inherit a win after a grinding crash between Brian Weinfurter and Colin Reffner took out both leaders coming for the white flag lap. Zakrzewski appeared to slow at the late going allowing Weinfurter to get past, who proceeded to drive into, then over the hood of Reffner’s car to take out 1st and 2nd place, giving the win to Zakrzewski.
Weinfurter’s Fast Time took a little sting out of a 12th place finish. Reffner posted 11th. Scott Hamel beat the others to 2nd after restarting last in a great effort, and John Zuch’s 3rd place run was another decent showing, along with Don Zuehlke in 4th and Ryan Hinner managing 5th with speed problems.
Brian Weinfurter Rockets to Victory at GSS!

Brian Weinfurter continued his rapid racing to the front with an amazing move early to take the win in the Super Stocks. Even though he started 8th, Weinfurter appeared to be up front almost instantly. He saw an opening, shot through a gap between two other cars slowing abruptly, and came out front in a big way by lap 5. Kyle Andrich and Colin Reffner followed, but neither would get close enough to challenge, although Reffner’s car seemed to find new life in the later laps, as he made it look easy passing Andrich for 2nd. Scott Hamel just will not give up a spot in the top 5, finishing 4th, and Matt Ciesielski posted another 5th place run. Dean Zakrzewski surprised everyone, including himself, with fast time, and picked up a few spots in the quality field.
Point Leader Colin Reffner Captures His First Feature of 2010 at 2010!

As the Super Stock class started their feature, the car count may have dropped a bit, but the competition was heated. Claire Decker led early, surrendering the lead to Scott Hamel on lap 8. Hamel looked ready for a win, but a caution on lap 10 bunched the group, and Colin Reffner got a huge run on Hamel and took off for the front. Lap 19 was another delay when Brian Weinfurter turned Duwayne Davis, and a 6 lap dash for the finish ended with Hamel losing 2nd to Dean Zakrzewski. John Zuch backed up his first-ever Fast Time at Golden Sands with a 4th, and Don Zuehlke posted a steady 5th.

Roger Peterson and Dean Zakrzewski began in the front row, with Peterson fighting for the lead, but getting quickly shuffled out of position, eventually suffering from damage that sent him into the pits.
Zakrzewski led early, and never looked back, as Brian Weinfurter and Colin Reffner put on one of the best racing displays in recent memory behind Zakrzewski.Ryan Hinner raced along with the top group of four, never losing touch, but never gaining ground. Reffner narrowly edged Weinfrurter for 2nd, as Hinner maintained 4th. Scott Hamel drove a great race to 5th after starting 10th.
