After a successful debut, the CWSSA has been invited by the staff at State Park Speedway to return and compete as a support division for 2 more events in 2010. The first event is the Larry Detjens Memorial on Thursday, July 29th, 2010 and then again for the “Race for a Cure” on Thursday, September 9th, 2010. We have received great feedback, both from you guys and from the SPS staff, from your experience there the first time and hopefully all of you and more will take the opportunity to return. This is a great chance for you to be able to race at a new venue and help to support local racing in the central Wisconsin area. These events will be conducted under CWSSA 2010 rules (Mid-Am cars and 2009 Dells Super Stocks are eligible to compete).

Wausau, WI June 20th, 2010 – After a year hiatus the Flip Merwin Snowmobile Race returns to State Park Speedway. Merwin, an up and coming snowmobile racer, lost his life in January 2003 at the World Snowmobile Championships in Eagle River. Each year since, with the exception of 2009, State Park Speedway honored Merwin with a memorial race, something the Wimmer’s are happy to have return to their track. “Flip was my best friend,” says State Park Speedway Owner Scott Wimmer, “I’ve gotten a chance to race in the Flip race, but when my Dad and I bought the track, bringing back this race was something that was very important to both of us. Flip was a huge part of my life and we are honored to be able to have this race and remember him.”
“Bringing the Flip Race back to Wausau was something we talked about right when we bought the track,” says Owner Ron Wimmer, “I spent a lot of time with Flip while he was growing up and was sad to see that there was not a Flip Merwin Memorial Race last year. This night is special for the Merwin family and our family and we are proud to bring it back to State Park Speedway.”
In honor of Flip Merwin and his passion for snowmobiling a handful of local snowmobile races will be on hand, including 2010 World Champion Matt Schultz and Wausau 525 winner P.J. Wandershield. An autograph session will be held from 6:15 until racing begins and many sleds will be on display throughout the night.
The super late model division highlights the night with a 75-lap feature. After two four tire race, this marks the first of five consecutive nights where drivers can purchase just two new tires to race on. Along with the pure stock division, sportsman division, and mini-mod division, State Park Speedway is excited to welcome the Central Wisconsin Super Stock Association to the ¼ mile track for the night. With five different divisions, fans will see a great night of racing!
